YES! a friend of mine decorated my door because it was my birthday. she bought a small poster board that had Happy Birthday on it....it came with a marker that attached at the bottom. People stopped by and wrote me notes - it was fun.
I also saw families that had made posters with their last names on it.. and then underneath they put "Mom and Pops room" "big Sis's room" etc
I saw one that had a picture of a couple when they got married, and then a current one for the 30th anniversay.
