The ship was on a training mission and returning home. It diverted 75 miles each way.
The ship and her crew were "on the clock" already.
There was NOT an additional cost to the tax payer.
Just a valuable chance to hone their rescue skills.
I am not saying pay. Most people do not have a million and a half hanging around and that is alot of money. I would like to think it would be a good samaritian thing.
after all I do believe a medical helicopter is something like $60,000, much less then a million and half and the average family could possibly pay that debt off before they die.
