I was bringing bottles aboard too, up until about 3 or 4 years ago when they started cracking down. Obviously, you haven't taken 50 cruises in the last three years now have you? When was the last time you walked aboard with a bottle of spirits, not sneaked aboard in luggage, but walked right past security with it? What line was it? Doubt if it was Cunard. Certainly not Holland or Princess. I've seen both of them turn booze away (actually politely take it with a promise to return it upon disembarkation) in ports all around the world.
