Tapping Into Cruise Bargains
by Paul Motter

It isn't any secret that the cruise lines are as affected by this current "economic crisis" as much as anyone. Why should you care? How about unprecedented bargains on some of the newest and coolest ships afloat?

Looking at the "hot bargains" lists, one cruise line jumps out at me, NCL. I see 7-day Caribbean cruises on new NCL ships as low as $283 per person! For a real bargain, look at the older Norwegian Dawn for just $234 per person, balcony cabins for $624. Now, if getting last minute air is a problem, you can opt for February 7, 2009, when the price goes up to just $289, balcony $654.

Other cruise lines? Carnival Valor has a similar cruise for $299 while Royal Caribbean has Enchantment of the Seas with an 8-day Caribbean cruise at $399 per person. Amazingly, you can even book the most beautiful and newest Holland America ship yet, Eurodam, on a 7-day Caribbean cruise starting at just $479 per person.

What is driving these bargains? First, they are all within the remainder of 2008, not including the holiday cruises.

I predict some of the best bargains ever on close-in NCL ships during the next few months. One NCL parent company, Apollo Management, needs cash. They also own Linens & Things and just announced 1000 stores are going out of business. Our local one is having the GOOB sale right now.

What about the most exciting ship ever, Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas set to debut in December 2009? We just got news that Royal Caribbean will introduce the final neighborhood to American Express cardholders on October 21st. We have seen some of the preliminary rates starting at $1649 per person for an inside cabin inaugural cruise. But what if you are looking for a better price? January 30th, 2010 you can book an inside cabin for $949 per person and a balcony for $1299.
