A balcony increases the square footage of a stateroom. With the rare exception of a pre-1990 vessel, all modern cruise ship utilize exterior balcony structure which is easier to install and provides a more optimal outdoor experience for the stateroom guest. Many balconies add in excess of 50-100 square feet to a cabin, a significant figure given that many cabins are between 200-300 square feet.
