Another handy hint is to ask to be close to the elevators near the lower level near the front desk.
A lot of hotels are now asking their clients to use their room key to get into the elevators. That helps somewhat too.
I have a safety device that I bought from a lock-smith that also stops anyone from coming into my hotel room.
