Just returned from a 16-night Panama Canal cruise on Celebrity Infinity. My partner and I were most unhappy with Celebrity's change in policy concerning "gatherings." Based on our experience on this ship in early 2008, we expected to see several FOD meetings listed in Celebrity Today early in the cruise. After three days and no listing, we asked at Customer Relations, only to be told that corporate had ruled that no FOD meetings would be scheduled unless requested by passengers in at least two staterooms, and then they would only publish them on a "message board" next to Customer Relations.
On the sixth day of the cruise, we got a phone call that a FOD meeting had been scheduled that night at the Martini Bar. We contacted two other family members we had happened to meet so seven folks showed up. We were enjoying cocktails when the Hotel Director walked by. She was most welcoming and said she would be happy to schedule FOD whenever and wherever we wished, but that she could not publish them in the daily newsletter.
We could understand Celebrity's desire to limit the number of items listed in their daily newsletter, but they had no problem listing any number of other "gatherings" in the newsletter.
We were led to believe that this change was company wide and dictated by corporate. We'd be interested in anyone else's recent experience on Celebrity.
