I think that a majority of missing people overboard have been caused by 1 of 2 reasons; "Suicide by Cruise Ship" and extreme alcohol intoxication causing an extreme case of something I like to call "the stupids!". Considering over 13 million people cruise every year and the extremely small handfull of people that do go missing, the chances are VERY good that if you don't have a desire to harm yourself and you limit your alcoholic intake to a reasonable level, you should be ok.
