No, I think it just sort of evolved. But OTOH, it does give immediate brand recognition to the ships of Royal Caribbean's fleet, much as the -dam suffix gives immediate brand recognition to the ships of Holland America Lines. I really like that form of branding a lot better than prepending the actual name of the line to what most insiders call the ship,
a la the new names from Carnival and Celebrity.
