Hello,
My friend and I are booked for the Nov 20, 2010 sailing thru the Panama Canal.
We are interested in finding a few people to do a private tour of the ancient city of Tikal in Guatemala on the 26th while in port at Puerto Quetzal. We need three more folks to make it reasonable.
This will be a small plane flying to Flores where we take a bus through the rain forest to the trail head to Tikal. From there it's an easy 4km hike to the ruins where we tour a large amount of space in a short period of time and have a quick lunch and back to the plane to get back to the ship with a full half hour to spare! Definitely an adventure. Should be able to get the cost down to about $700 per person with 5 of us splitting the cost.
Unfortunatly, we are not in Puerto Quetzal long enough to do the 10 1/2 hour trip offered as a shore excursion by the charter companies, so the price is a bit steep relative to other excurtions. But, we do fly in a private plane and are guaranteed to get back in time for ship sailing.
This will definitely be the highlight of this trip for me. Even more so than the passage through the Canal. Two for one!
