I am considering a cruise on Holland America Veendam to South America Oct – Nov 2011 and seek a mature and somewhat cultured individual to share a cabin expenses and possible shore explorations. I have sailed transatlantic twice aboard Clipper ships, tried the freighter cruising, island hopping, and want to experience new terrains and cultures. I would prefer a sailing ship to a cruise ship, but have yet to find one doing the southern passages.
I am 69, straight, SWM, 6’ 2, 190 Lbs, fit and well organized, retired R&D engineer, former marine, non-smoker, and normally up to enjoy the new day’s sunrise and coffee. I am willing to try most any new thing excepting extreme sports. Being a scuba diver and hiker, I generally seek land trips with one buddy or a few people for flexibility and agility. When given a choice of an organized tour vs. independent look-abouts, I try to seek the less traveled road, and slip into local-only market places, tapas, museums and shops. I enjoy lively conversation on most any topic and am a good listener. Am artistic, but also highly analytical and highly intuitive with good outback as well as city street sense.
My preferred travel partner is a single female, tidy, respectful, non-smoker. In good physical condition, they enjoy classical and Latin music and dance, hiking, exploration, or doing independent activities. Occasional late night party person is quite OK if complemented with a clean and quiet cabin environment.
