Barbados is getting additional airlift to and from its key British market in the traditionally slow summer period.
From June 16 regional carrier Caribbean Airlines is starting thrice weekly flights originating in Port of Spain and passing through Barbados before traveling to Gatwick, London. Airline officials said the Barbados flight would be launched in the summer of this year and would be operated using a 767 - 300 ER aircraft with a two class configuration of Business and Economy.
In addition to being a boost for Trinidad and Gatwick, it was believed the service would also be a welcomed addition for Barbados since Gatwick Airport offered the fastest gateway into the heart of London with access to all major London train stations and all major UK cities.
Gatwick Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer Guy Stephenson said “business travellers particularly will welcome this new service linking them with the economic hub of Trinidad, but it also opens up an exciting new choice for holiday makers”.
“This new route demonstrates our ongoing success in attracting new airlines to Gatwick as a result of our ongoing multimillion pound investment programme aimed to deliver the best airport experience for all passengers, including a wider range of travel options,” he said.
Caribbean Airlines Acting CEO, Robert Corbie said his company was “extremely happy to announce the start up of our service from Gatwick to Piarco International Airport as our flights will provide a vital link between London and the Caribbean”.
“We are well positioned strategically to become the preferred airline for all customers flying between London and the Caribbean with seamless connections to South America,” he stated. (SC)
