It's sad to say but there are just a few places I personally still feel safe going in Mexico and I have been going for many years..I'll still get off (with pleasure) in Cozumel and walk the streets at night with no fear whatsoever (even alone). The Tulum and the Playa Del Carmen area also seem quite safe. I have also not had any problem with the border town of Progreso, Mx (not the port, the Texas border town near McAllen, Tx).
