And in case you do get downunder, you will find Abalone in high end Cinese restaurants in Sydney's China Town - usually alive in aquariums. Probably also in Melbourne but not on cruise ships. Live seafood delicacies in Chinese restaurants are very expensive - in the "if you need to ask the market price. you can't afford it" range. You can buy fresh and frozen abalone in the Sydney Fish markets - not always available but worth seeking out if you know how to prepare and cook it and have access to fire, some Asian condiments and a skillet.
