Although most people do dress up in the dining room on formal evenings you'll find that Princess isn't all that strict about how formal people adhere to the policy. You can certainly get by with less than true formal attire such as a long sleeve dress shirt for the guys even without a jacket and a dressy top with black pants for the women. They want everyone to enjoy their cruise experience.
