The New York Times is compiling people's memories of great Ed Koch comeback lines. I'd heard this one before, but forgotten it. . .

Hizzoner was asked to explain something that he'd already covered numerous times. His retort:

I can explain it to you again, but I can't comprehend it for you.

Thanks Mayor, that was a mitzvah. Maybe I should post it in open debate.

I've often thought that it would be fun to see Koch and Barney Frank in some sort of battle of wits. I'd have bought a ticket and stood in line for that.

Too bad he didn't live longer. . .he could have become a Scoutmaster.
