I spoke with Capt. Johnny who used to be the Captain of Mariner of the Seas, which was based in California; anyway he was on Allure and I spoke with him about pulling the ships out of California; this is what he said; Most Californian's drive or fly down to Mexico; and have been to Cabo, Puerta Vallarta, Mazalan and when they cruised with Royal they never left the ship, because they had already been there; Royal makes money on shore excursions and the local ports depend on people spending money; so when 1/3 of the ship stays onboard; no one makes money; except the bar tenders. Does this makes sense as to why Royal pulled out? Capt. Johnny said; "its about making money or the lack of it in California" Royal has no immediate plans to base a ship there as of today.
