We have had a Whirlpool front-load washer & dryer set for 10 years now. The only complaint is it eats socks. (Actually, they get behind the door sealer gasket of the washer, but it took us a while to figure it out... and arguments as to whether a washer can actually consume laundry... trust me, it can.)
We had our house built with a laundry machine "podium" about 22 inches tall, so that the machine doors are actually at normal-human level, and laundry can be more easily handled.
Capacity is way better. Since we have a family, we are not going back to top-load. When we bought it there were not many HE (High Efficiency) detergents available, but that has all changed. We like the "pods"... easy.
