I do enjoy spending time in port cities before cruises and I make it a point to do that as often as possible.

Our last Alaska trip we spent two full days in downtown Seattle to see the best parts of that area, and it was great.

I also really enjoy river cruises and other small ship cruises where you are in port every day. I am about to take a Blount cruise that only visits Maine, New Brunswick, Mass and Newport Rhode Island. It is an immersive trip in the destination.

In truth, I would like to take car trips when I retire, but since I am still working I like cruises because I can work during the cruise. I have Internet access and I can write while we travel from place to place.

I have somewhat lost my joy over the typical Caribbean cruise, because I live in Phoenix and don't get "winter syndrome" where I need a tropical break.
