Sometimes the packages can save you money, but often times not. Have your agent provide you information/quotes on both methods so you can compare them.

Personally, we prefer not to do the packages because they are very regimented and you have to do what they want, when they want, and where they want while being herded like cattle. We much prefer to rent a can and do our own thing and that way we can do what we want and not worry about anybody else - makes for a much nicer and less hurried experience.
