Phyllis and Norris,
I'll second Donna's comments about MV Ocean Princess. She really is a magnificent ship with plenty of activities for every member of the family! In fact, your greatest frustration may well be the unfortunate discovery that you won't have time to join in anywhere near as many daytime activities as you would like with only one day at sea. Such is life, and there's always your next cruise....
Here are a few things not to miss aboard the ship.
>> Fabio's Pizzeria, at the top of the atrium (immediately forward of the Grand Casino on the Dolphin Deck), serves excellent pizza and calzones. It's open for lunch and in the late evening.
>> Afternoon Tea (open seating, 3:30-4:30 PM, in the Portofino Dining Room, is an excellent option for an afternoon snack or a modest bite to eat if you miss lunch and don't want to kill dinner. Princess's British parentage really shines here, so try to go at least once during your cruise.
>> The wine tasting, usually held in one of the main dining rooms on the first full day at sea, is an excellent deal. They charge $5.00 to your onboard account, but you receive a credit for that amount toward the purchase of a bottle of wine to accompany your dinner on the evening of your choice. You may apply the credit toward any wine on the wine list (which is quite extensive), as it is not restricted to the wines sampled at the tasting. They usually sample two white wines, two red wines, and a sparkling wine on a rotating basis.
>> I would not skip dinner in the main dining room for anything. The service and the food are outstanding.
>> Princess's production shows are truly outstanding and the headliners are quite talented, so don't skip the evening shows.
>> "Island Night" is a great deck party, usually held on a casual night. Be sure to bring your tropical shirts and dresses for this occasion. Also, bring your camera to photograph the "Island Night" buffet with its fancy vegetable carvings and ice sculptures.
>> For dancing, the Wheelhouse Bar has two live combos that play from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM and the Horizon Court has a live combo from 9:00 PM until midnight. Forget the disco.
>> Also in the evening, a lot of passengers seem to enjoy the sing-along in the Atrium Lounge (the Promenade Deck of the Grand Atrium) or piano music in the Apres-Vous Lounge (which is the champagne and caviar bar).
>> As Donna noted, the "Champagne Fountain" is quite impressive -- and the occasion of a very classy party, since it occurs on the last formal night.
>> On a sea day, be sure to try the magical teak deck lounges on the shady side of the Promenade Deck!
Do have a great cruise! (It will be pretty tough not to do so!
