George,

Be sure to bring a winter jacket, too. Typical October temperatures are in the 50's in Boston and even cooler further north. Yes, you might hit a warm spell and find temperatures in the 70's, but you are eqully likely to hit a cold spell and find temperatures in the 30's or even in the 20's and perhaps a snowstorm as well. The northern part of Maine often has its first snow in August.
