As you probably know, Regal is an older ship.
Actually, it's even worse than that. MV Regal Princess is the last of the vessels ordered by Sitmar Cruises. She was under construction when Princess Cruises acquired Sitmar Cruises in 1988 Princess Cruises made a few (largely superficial) changes to the design to provide facilities that Princess's passengers would expect, but a major redesign obviously was not an option at that phase of the shipbuilding process. Although Princess marketed this ship and sister MV Crown Princess as the "latest and greatest" in the early 1990's, independent reviews by Fromer's, Fodor's, and others in that period consistently indicated that they measured up to the standards of MV Royal Princess (completed in 1984) and other vessels built to Princess's designs. The parent company, P&O Princess Cruises Pls. (LSE: POC), has already transferred the former MV Crown Princess sister line A'Rosa, based in Germany, to operate as MV A'Rosa Blu and has indicated that MV Regal Princess will follow in the spring of 2004.
