Meant to say late Aug. last year. There were only 2/3 weeks left after we cruised and from what I heard from some of those cruisers, the weather did say you just never know, be prepared for anything....

Good weather is not the norm late Sept Alaska touring.

We are from Portland OR so a little rain wont bother us

It generally isn't a little. Steady all day pour, cold, damp. Be prepared and stay dry!!! Always take 2 pair of walking shoes, an excellent "trick" I have been using for years, is to place a dry hand towel into the shoes, the wick action dries them out by the next day. It is worthwhile to go late, only with deep discounts, but don't make it your "one and only trip".
