We had brought some hiking shoes (low ones, not the boots) when we were in Alaska last August. We did some walking and hiking at a few of the ports, so they came in quite handy (especially with a few days of rain!). In Ketchikan we were pretty much staying in town as it was only a short time in port, so they really weren't needed then. It pretty much depends on what you feel most comfortable wearing. I agree about having 2 pairs of walking shoes with you; if you have weather for a few days as we did you'll be glad to have a change!! Have a great cruise!!
