Default Cruising the Mediterranean

We are first timers looking to cruise the Med in 2004--celebrating our 25th anniversary & husbands 50th. First question--during the gulf war, cruise ships were diverted out of the Mediterranean. Is it anticipated the same will happen again if we go to war w/ Iraq? Question #2--Which cruise line would be the best for this region, balancing quality w/ value? In other words, we don't mind paying for quality, but don't need the "ultimate". Question #3--Which ports are absolute musts? Without previous experience, all the ports look exciting. Question #4--We are both non-smokers & I understand that since most of the cruise lines in the Med are European, smoking is prevalent. Is there any way to identify a ship that may accomodate non-smokers?
