Default delta queen

i don't know how many CruiseMates are inland waterway cruisers, but for those who are or those who are interested in the industry as a whole:

the delta queen steamboat is going to be "parked" for the better part of 2002.
she was the only boat to continue cruising after the recent bankruptcy of "American Classic Voyages"

the sternwheeler traditionally competes (for the past 37 years) in a Great Steamboat race each year the first week of may as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival -- a community celebration that extends two weeks before the greatest two minutes in sports.

we in louisville, ky learned this week the Delta Queen has opted out of the race. the company originally stated the boat would "not be cruising" the ohio river and Louisville during the time frame, indicating it would be cruising other waters.

upon further searching, we discovered the boat will be dry-docked from jan 15, 2002 through late august.

so much for "rollin' on the river" for the foreseeable future.
