Default Booking a cruise

Stupid question - Maybe

We have been surfing the net looking a various cruiselines. We have finally decided to cruise with Celebrity's Mellinium. My question is ... Is it better to book your cruise through a travel agent or, book directly online? Is there an advantage to booking online? What about cancelation insurance. Is it recommended? Being Canadian we do have medical insurance and our employer's additional medical insurance covers us for 40 days while we are abroad.

We were told if we book online directly with Celebrity they cannot offer us cancellation insurance because we are Canadian. Is this true, can we not make arrangements with Celebrity? This and anyother advice will be appreciated.
