To everyone reading this thread:
Please check your health/medical insurance policy or contact your provider before assuming you are covered outside of the United States. Most health insurance policies, especially HMO's and Preferred Provider Organizations, do not cover you outside of the United States.
Most Medicare plans will not cover you outside of the United States except in some emergency situations in Mexico and Canada and then it can be a real problem to be reimbursed. There are some Medicare Choice + and Medigap policies that will cover you.
There are some policies that do have international coverage but many people reading this thread may assume that because they have health insurance they are covered. This could lead them to a very costly mistake.
