Much has been discussed about tips being automatically charged to your ship account. Alternatively, one can also, at the beginning of the trip, go to the pursers' desk to ask for the auto charge be removed and tipping the old way. So how would the servers, especially the room steward/ess know if I am tipping the old way or "new way", as room steward/esses don't pool their tips together (or do they)? I saw some cruisers in their reviews stating that (in the "old days", that is, before this auto charge is introduced), they would give half or less than half of the tip at the beginning of the cruise and that "has worked magic throughout the entire cruises". I wonder how that tactic is going to work now. Thanks for any opinion on the topic.
