cruiztime,
The only thing I would change was not accepting the invitation to the Captains Table. Did not enjoy the dinner at all. Too many people at the table, took too long to be served and to eat.
I really hope that you'll try the Captain's Table again if you get another opportunity, and also that it will be a more pleasant experience, because it's extremely gauche to decline an invitation from the captain while embarked in his vessel. In fact, the norms of social etiquette require that one retract previous acceptance of another social invitation and send regrets if one receives a social invitation from (1) a head of state or (2) the captain (or master) of a vessel in which one is embarked. (It is, however, permissible to answer in the negative if the social hostess or another member of the ship's staff asks you whether or not you wish to receive such an invitation.)
We had late seating and everything was cold by the time it was served.
That's absolutely inexcusable, but the fault rests with the waiter for not timing the delivery of food properly. If the Captain's food was also cold, it's a pretty safe bet that the master addressed the matter with the maitre d' after the meal. Unfortunately, that did not remedy your legitimate complaint.
Norm.
