It is not that they are stuffy but they are attempting to do their part in following the written code for dining on the formal nites and there are other alternatives for those who do not want to comply.Am always amazed in wondering why this becomes such a big issue as I am sure that this would not be a problem if required at their place of employment and it has nothing to do wioth this being a vacation where anything goes.
