I took a RCCL cruise this year and really enjoyed it. I hadn't heard that Carnival was much different and I booked a Carnival Liberty cruise for my family for next April. If Carnival standards are lower, I wonder if I should cancel my Carnival reservations and play it safe with RCCL. RCCL costs a bit more. But it was pretty low key and everyone seemed to play by the rules with no problems.
