Ah, actually not -- and sorry that I missed this earlier. In the Americas, the equator passes through Equador (literally, the Spanish word for "equator"), clips the southern tip of Columbia, and passes through the sidest part of Brazil, meeting the Atlantic at the mouth of the Amazon River. Panama, including the Canal Zone, is entirely within the northern hemsiphere, so its "winter" starts in December and ends in March.
That said, Panama's winters are very warm by virture of being in the tropics.
