Hi CruiseMates,

The national handicraft center is just around the corner from the Belize Tourism Village where the tenders dock, and it was put together by the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The center is stocked to the gills (pardon the expression - we like fish!!!) with and extremely large and incredibly beautiful array of handicraft items from $1 to $1,700.00 (solid carved special wooden doors!!) which are the products of over 600 artisans from around Belize. And YES, you can bargain for a better price. They will package a splendid "different woods" beautiful relaxing chair which can easily be taken on board, or arrange to ship a larger item to you. We feel the prices here are very competitive with the stuff you will find inside and outside the tourism village at the flea markets on the streetsides, for instance. And the handicraft center takes cash, TCs or credit cards. (In Belize credit cards carry a bank charge - so watch that). We feel that buying there really helps Belizean producers from other parts of Belize who ordinarily would not make it to Belize City on cruise ship days, so that is a boost to their family businesses. Happy shopping!!
