We were told that, on average, 80 percent of HAL cruisers are non-smokers and only 20 per cent smoke. Rather representative of the population as a whole.
Noordam has been conducting an experiment making the casino smoke free and it was great. The entire 11 days we loved being aboard Noordam, we were able to roam into the casino if we felt like it and not be bothered by smoke.
I got the impression this may go fleet wide. If revenue numbers remain constant (or even increase), it's a win win. They would be maintaining the revenue they need from the casino and would be making 80 percent of the passengers happy.
As there are fewer smokers in our population, there will be fewer places smoking is permitted including on all the ships. That certainly will make the insurance companies happy. Less smoking; less risk of fire; happier insurance companies.
