Having done this cruise just last October, I would recommend taking a tour because of all the history and information you get. We did the Peggy Cove's tour and since it is a long drive there, you get to see the countryside and hear about the area. The bus went up one way and back another so we got to see alot. Just my experience. We also still had plenty of time for shopping.
