A few weeks ago I picked up an old Hope/ Crosby / Lamour
" Road to Rio " movie . I think these were made in the late 30's-early 40's.
Hope and Crosby had stowed away on an ocean liner bound for Rio.
One scene showed the passengers sitting around on the main deck one night watching a movie. So it appears at least the idea has been around sometime.
When I was a kid in the 60's and early 70's, my family used to go on cruises frequently. We went on the Greek Line, the Queen Ana Maria, the Olympia, and also went on the Chandris Line Amerikanis among others. On those three ships over the course of several years, they showed movies in the movie theater. I saw the VERY SAME movie on all three ships. It was called "Viva Max," a comedy about Peter Ustinov and John Astin as Mexican Army guys in the 60's who decide to re-take the Alamo. Yes, I bought the VHS when it came out
