Good idea, but here's a snag. When I did a TransAtlantic on the QE2 this past April, I asked the woman at check-in if she could punch a hole in my card so that I could put it on my lanyard. She told me that if she did that, I wouldn't be able to order drinks onboard the ship. The hole punched in the card was how the bar staff determined who could not be served because they were underage.
Sounded stupid to me ... because I am obviously over 21. But that was her story, and she was sticking to it.
But I agree wholeheartedly with you. It would be nice to be at least offered the option of having your card punched and put on a cruise line logo lanyard at embarkation.
