Default princess shore excursions (voyage of the glaciers)

My wife and I are sailing May 12th on Dawn Princess. We are looking for any information regarding excursions in the following ports of call: Vancouver, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Anchorage. We are looking for excursions that reveal the beauty of Alaska (and we don't mind physical activities). We would also appreciate any additional information about the ship or any of the ports of call.

Thanks,
Andrew

Last year we were on the Ocean Princess and enjoyed it so much we are going on 5/14 on the Sun Princess, I recommend that in Skagway the White Pass and Yukon Territory adventure. This is an al day where you take a bus into the Yukon to Carcross, have a BBQ chicken lunch, and return to Frazier where you get on the White Pass Rairoad back to Skagway. It is a bit pricy but good.

In Ketchican the town tours are good and the heritage tour was worth it. The fish hatchery and totem musuem are the low points though, We are going to the Saxman Totem Villiage this time.

In Juneau we are going to take a tour that Princess does not offer to the Tracy Arm. Check on the internet about this as it appears that it may be one of the best around. The Mendenhall Glacier is a must see and the Mt Roberts is also good.

The downfall of Princess is on the North bound trips and debarkation in Seward. this time we are getting a rental car to go to Anchorage as we did not get off the ship till noon last time. Half of the busses are in Seward the other half are in Anchorage. If they have you a hotel in Anchorage they don't care if they get you to town before everything closes.

Enjoy you will get tired of taking pictures of eagles and check the price of your trip as I saved $900 last week when they lowered the prices.

To go on the Tracy Arm tour you need a full day in Juneau as these tours leave about 8:30 am and don't return until 6pm. I did this on one of my trips to Juneau via Auk Nu, an excellent company.I too highly recommend renting a car from Hertz Seward- Anchorage- I have done this every trip except took the train once. If staying a few days consider doing what I do to reduce your rental costs- rent your one way car for one day and turn it in for a cheap RT Anchorage rental- last year it was about $100 for the one way and $25/day for the RT Anchorage for an addition 4 days. Dawn is a stunning ship, and Princess does a smashing job with its ground tours.
I suggest you visit Princess' web site (www.princesscruises.com) where you'll find a list of all Alaska shore excursions. It helps to first know what's available.
