I'm having a difficult time deciding which shore excursion to take in Juneau.
I'm on the Dawn Princess May 19th. I definately want a ship-sponsered
tour and I won't do flight-seeing/helicopters. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Juneau is a good place to take the tour for whale watching. Last time we were there we took the tour from the ship and it was very good. You see a lot more than just whales. We are going the week after you this year and deffinately plan on taking that tour again.
The choices I would recommend would be the city/glacier combo. Gives a good overview and some great views of Mendenhall. BUT I don't understand your wanting a ship tour. Be prepared to pay $40 for the above when it is $20 on MGT or similar company for the exact same tour. Other posters recommended the whale watch. Ship tours will be on 150 passenger boats, independents I have sailed with- 5-10 people, although the price is about the same $100, you are whale watching about 30 minutes longer. Expect 6-8 humpbacks with orcas only coming in about every 5-10 days. There is also Mt. Roberts tram about $20 all day pass, if in port late definately go up at night.
Where do you get the anme/phone number/address of the independents not offerrred throught the cruise ship Besides the independents for whale watching, can you reccommend independents for the helicopter touring to the glaciers
Request a Juneau visitor guide 888 581-2201 I really like Coastal for a helicopter glacier landing. www.coastalhelicopters.com the best of all Alaska excursions!!!!!!!!!
