Default Alaska

We are sailing the Inside Passage on RCCL Vision of the Seas June 10-17. We have a group of 14 with 2 kids (8&9 yrs old). Interested in if anyone has participated in the kids program on the ship and how it was. Also, shore excursions. Anyone uses independent company vs. what you get on the ship and is it better or worse?
Thanks for any info.

I never book any ship excursions and always go on my own for cheaper and better tours. You will not get much of any "real Alaska" on an insultated ship tour with other cruisers. It is very easy to do, best reference is each port's visitor guide. As for the kids center- I'm sure it is will be fine. My kids never did participate much as they were into wildlife viewing from the front of the ship and just walking about.

Karen,
Thanks for the info. I think one of the things we will definely do will be the heli ride to the glacier. Did you do this? If so which port and company did you use.
Thanks again for the reply.

We did it in Juneau with Coastal. It was a great trip, very smooth and lots of fun walking on the glacier. But my favorite of all was bear watching in Ketchikan. We were way out in the woods at the top of a waterfall watching them catch salmon as they jumped up the falls. www.taquanair or www.islandwings are the ones that do that excursion.

I have glacier helicopter landed 6 times with 3 companies and my favorite by far is www.coastalhelicopters.com for their excellent personal tours.

Which bear viewing trip did you do? The companies you mention seem to do Anan Creek and Traitor's Cove. Have you ever been to Neet's Bay? These three locations seem to be the ones that most of the flightseeing companies are going to. It sounds like you had a great time; I'm looking forward to my first wild bear!
