Plan on using a shipboard credit for "bear watching". Princess has 2 tours: "Neets Creek" and "Traitors Cove". Which one of these sites is better? Also the tours start as early as 7:30 -is earlier in the morning better?
We did the bear watching at Neets Creek in '99 and it was great! Don't know anything about Traitors Cove. As I remember we did go in the morning - but I would guess that the bear are there most of the time.
It depends what your sailing date is. If you are looking at mid August and onward, Traitor's Cove is better. Check out islandwings.com and taquanair.com. I know you are booking through the ship, but they do offer info on each location!
Actually the ship contractor is Taquan- at least on some of the flights. As the other poster- a great deal depends on when you are going. I have been to Neets and Anan- both mid to late Aug. My trips were afternoon. The sightings depend solely on the salmon runs.
We will be in Ketchikan on Aug. 22nd. which should coincide with the salmon running. Does the time of day make any difference in seeing bears.I've only seen black bears at night when they came to raid the dumpsters in our campground. Obviously in Alaska they leave the garbage alone and dine "upscale"!! (why eat left-overs?!)
