I will be in Anchorage in mid-august, 2001 for a day or two with my family (two kids, 11 and 6, wife and me.) We are interested in a flightseeing trip to and around Denali. Does anyone have any suggestions/experiences?
Hopefully you will have a car????? I think the flightseeing out of Talkeetna is excellent and much cheaper than going out of Anchorage. I have gone with Talkeetna Aero on both the Summit and glacier landing flights- (no landings if doing the summit) I would overnight in this GREAT funky real Alaska town- stop at Eagle River and Eklutna on the way up (2 hours north of Anchorage). and take a morning flight and return to Anchorage. www.talkeetnaaero.comwww.flyk2.comwww.alaska.net/~mckairwww.alaska.net/~flytat
We had one day in Anchorage and we regret not going to
Denali. You're on the right track. However, if you have a few
hours in Anchorage, check into renting bikes and riding on
the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. It's about 11-12 miles long
and fairly flat (only a few small hills). We saw a moose and
its baby on about mile six. Well worth it, even if we didn't
see the moose.
