Default RCCL or Princess

Am trying to decide which cruise lines to tour Alaska. My husband, my mother and I are planning a trip for 2002 in late August/Sept. and haven't a clue on which to take. We like the cruise portion of RCCL - Legend of the Sea. But, like the Kenai land tour option from Princess - Ocean.

If anyone can give a little insight as to their thoughts on either, it may help.

Your first concern should be ports and glacier with Glacier Bay my preference. Any Kenai touring can be done on your own for 1/2 the cost and it would allow you much more freedom to see more than being on a fixed schedule glossing over the highlights of the main tourist areas. Same for any interior touring, consider going on your own for a better "real Alaska" experience that you just do not get in the group tours.

Hi,

Go with Princess or Holland America. They are the only two mainstream lines allow by the US Forestry Dept. to enter Glacier Bay which is much better than Hubbard Glacier.

Second, since you are talking about Kenai, I assume you are going on a one way either northbound or southbound. Although I am not sure whether you are thinking this year or next year, but right now, the RCCL ship doing that itinerary is Rhapsody of the Seas which I hear from my travel agent (who is located in Vancouver) that the ship is in very POOR condition.

The other two RCCL ships doing the inside passage cruise are good (Radiance is better than Vision though). However, I suggest you do the north or southbound cruise and therefore go with HAL or PRINCESS.

hmmm...

I just returned from a southbound Rhapsody trip and I didn't
think it was in poor condition. Don't get me wrong, I'm not
cheering for RCCL, but the ship was very nice.

What about Carnival? Anyone have an opinion on this line?

I think the Carnival Spirit would be an awesome ship to go to Alaska on.

I have a trip planned on Radiance next summer - can't wait.

I have cruised 3 times to Alaska on Carnival. It is important to note that the passengers are middle aged and above the majority. NO PARTY SHIPS IN ALASKA!!!! Similar passengers on the 4 lines I have been to Alaska on- Princess, HAL and RCI.

I saw your message on the board and wanted to respond.

I am a travel agent and I am also booked on an Alaska cruise for Sept. 2002. We decided to go for our anniversary. I priced all of the cruise lines and blocked space on the line that offered the best pricing. The pricing was so good that our mothers and friends are going with us as well. It is a dream come for our mothers.

As far as Princess vs. Royal Caribbean, you will have a wonderful cruise regardless of which line you choose. Princess and Holland America seem to offer the most in the way of choices and have been doing the cruisetours for sometime now. They are the two lines that we seem to book most of our Alaska cruises on. However, I have sent folks on other cruise lines and they have had a wonderful time.
