P.S. I never mentioned I was on a cruise ship on my reservation form. It wasn't until I called them (after being offered the 4:30 trip) that they asked.

They reserve/allocate a lot of space for the cruise ships. When you think about it, the cruise ships are their lifeline, so it makes sense that they would look out for each other. Instead of the train, we rented a car and went into the Yukon. I thought the best scenery was beyond the summit and into British Columbia and the Yukon, but then we didn't get to experience the train ride.

You thought the scenery past the summit was better???? I have always thought driving over the summit was the best. But as you state- since you didn't go on the train- that is the best of all scenery in my opinion. I find the scenery greatly drops off after the summit- all the way to Whitehorse actually.
