I've been reading a lot about people taking the train from Anchorage to Seward but, what about the other direction?
Next Sept. the Spirit arrives in Seward at 7:00 a.m. I figure that with breakfast and debarkation, we'll be off the ship by 10 or 11. I've been reading that the train does run from Seward to Anchorage but not until 6:00 p.m. or something like that. I have also heard that there is another train, the Grand View (I think), that makes the run from Seward to Anchorage. Anyone know anything about this?
We are leaving next week for our Northbound cruise and we are taking the train from Seward to Anchorage. According to our rail passes it leaves at 7am. It takes longer than the bus but you can't beat eating breakfast/lunch on a train. We booked through the ship and the rail passes were $89 each. Good luck in yourr planning!
Tami,
The Carnival Spirit arrived in Seward at 2AM on August 8. Many people were off the ship by 7 AM. We were off just after 8 AM, too early for us but did have a chance to catch some breakfast. US Customs clears the ship before it leaves Vancouver, so there is no delay in leaving the final morning of the cruise.
This is something that I might be able to help with. We booked the train from Anchorage to Seward for Friday, August 31. Will be leaving at 6:45am from the train station at West lst Avenue in Anchorage and arriving in Seward at ll:05am. Booked by calling 800/544-0554 or 907/265-2323. It was a very easy process and cost 55.00 per person. They give you a confirmation # and we paid with credit card.
Staying at the Comfort Inn which they suggested (couple blocks from train station). They pick us up at airport and will also take us to the train at 6:45am not bad (but for Comfort Inn $152.10 plus tax seems high).
The cruise line has a separate train that leaves early am. The regular run leaves at 6pm- this year for $55. Of course it is the same route that takes 4 hours.
