Default Alaskan Hotel advice needed

We have decided to rent a car and do a precruise trip on our own. We will be going at the end of June 2002,and would really appreciate some suggestions on places to stay in Anchorage, Talkeenta and Denali . Everyone has been such a help before that I am sure you won't let me down now. We want to start making reservations soon so that we won't be shut out .Any other advice on the trip would also be great. We did the inside passage this summer on the Infinity and loved it so much that we decided to do the Southern cruise next year on the Summit.

We did the same thing, the round trip cruise one year and the southbound this year. We booked out own pre cruise tour and loved every minute of it. We stayed at Swiss Alaska Inn at Talkeetna and loved it since we walked a path through the woods and were right in town. And what a neat town it is, well, not exactly neat, more like basic, but typical Alaska. We stayed at Denali Suites just north of the park entrance. It was a condo, some had two bedrooms, other's three. All had living rooms, dining area and large kitchens are were just beautiful. At $152-$192 per night they were great deals since we had a group of 9 people. Contact the Talkeetna/Denali visitor center for help in all your plans. They were great. And make sure you book a flight around Mt McKinley. It was so breathtaking. And book the 12 hr trip in Denali. Email me if I can help any more.

Shelley,
If you're interested in Bed & Breakfasts, please e-mail me and I'll give you the info on the places I've stayed in the past. We are leaving for Alaska again next week and will have more info after we get back on the 15th of September.

http://www.nps.gov/dena/home/roadtour/index.html to reserve your shuttle into the park. You must go at least as far as Eielson Visitors Center. It cost us $23 each for adults and my 10 year-old granddaughter was free. Everybody loved this trip. They also have "tours" which don't go as far, are not as good and cost more. They do include a lunch, but you can bring your lunch fixed by your b & b or a local restaurant.

http://www.alaskavisit.com/ The area 1-3 hours north of Anchorage...a great site with pictures and contact info for dozens of b & b's...some as far away as Talkeetna

http://www.touchofwildernessbb.com/ We stayed here and it was comfortable but nnoisy with creaky floors upstairs and no soundproofing. Nice folks though the proprietors were notably absent. Nice employees tho. More of a motel than a b & b. Good food and we saw a grizzly mom and her 2 yearlings in the front yard, having turned over the dumpster. They woke us at 3 am for this and we were delighted.

I read that Motel 6 is opening a hotel in Anchorage, supposedly summer 2001 http://www.motel6.com/

I don't have the Anchorage website but you can get it through Google or your favorite web-search. Request an Anchorage travel/tour book. It will take about 6 weeks but has coupons and hotel listings. Get a tour book for Alaska from AAA (if you don't belong, you surely know someone who does.)

You are getting ready for a great adventure Shelly...the planning is part of the fun. Enjoy it.
