I have done Princess 4 times in Alaska and always was treated great and had a good time. Princess and Holland America have done Alaska longer than the others. I know I saw them tendering in Royal Caribbean passengers in one port while there. Always was at a dock on Princess. Never saw Celebrity or Carnival in any port we were in so I do not know if they dock or tender in.

first cruise; Inner Passage on Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas. We were docked at each port (Skagway, Juneau & Ketchikan). I LOVED IT!!!

Lisa,
Before I went on my cruise/tour this August, I asked the same questions and did a lot of research on the different cruise lines. I ended up taking Royal Caribbean mainly because it seemed better suited for my teenage children but was worried about the food and their newness to the cruise/tour business. Everything was fantastic! I'm sure the other lines are fantastic as well. You'll probably end up picking one line over another based on some intangibles or gut feel. However, no matter what line you choose, you will be guaranteed to have a great time! They are all fantastic.

Try the Spirit. See my review on this site. 8-01-01.
Get a balcony if you can. Spirit has the most balconies.

You might want to check itineraries on the various lines. Since restrictions have
been placed on Glacier Bay, not all lines are able to include that location. We
have made four cruises on Princess and enjoyed every one. Next year we are
booked on Summit(Celebrity)simply because we had such a great inaugural
cruise on Infinity earlier this year. ENJOY

I think my fience and I are chooseing the celbrity summit also. Do you know anything about this ship? We are going to go May 24. The iternery for the northbound says it stops at glacer bay/hubberd bay, I am geuss that means I will see both spots?

Thank you for your info

Hi Lisa,

We have booked the Summit (Celebrity) for May 24,2001. I did lots
of research on cruiselines and chose Celebrity for the
food (my husband's picky) and we got a great price we are on
the Sky Deck and our cabin has been upgraded once already.
Celebrity upgraded us because of a small error in the price
travel agent mistake. So far I'm impressed with their service.
We still have eight months to go. I have sailed on Carnival
and Norwegian, I'm hoping Celebrity tops the good service on
those ships. Good Luck with your decision.

Lisa ==>

The Celebrity web site indicates you'll go to Hubbard Glacier and not Glacier Bay. Also, the web site itinerary doesn't indicate that you go to College Fjord, another spectacular side trip. Too bad. While I have not seen Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay was beyond belief. We were there in May on the Dawn Princess, sister ship of the Sun Princess. To give you an idea of what our trip was like, the Princess rep escorted us from the Vancouver airport to a beautiful stretch limo that carried us to our hotel for a pre-cruise stay. The rest of the trip went up from there. I can't credit all of that to Princess. The weather was perfect. Everything fell into place perfectly...and that rarely happens. For example, when we pulled up to the glacier in Glacier Bay, it promptly put on a spectacular calving show right on cue. On board, if there was ever anything that we even thought we might want or need, a Princess person was there to provide it. Our 35th anniversary trip was as good as it gets.
On the other hand, we've booked the Summit for a Hawaii cruise in early May next year. From all reports, Celebrity's Millenium ships (including the Summit) outdo Princess.
Personal opinion...if you are travelling for the amenities of the ship, stick with the Summit. If you want to experience Alaska both onboard and via excursions, check out the Princess cruise. Either way, you're going to have a great time.

All information indicates that Summit will visit Hubbard Glacier, and wll have to
skip Glacier Bay due to the restrictions on the number of ships permitted to sail
in that area. Every comment I have seen indicates that Hubbard is beautiful and
an excellent substitute. The College Fjord , mentioned by somone else, is in
Prince William Sound--the cruise route to Valdez goes through the Sound and I
believe it will include many glaciers. We have made several trips through this
area and are booked on Summit for the May 24 trip--after cruising from Hawail to
Vancouver. You will really enjoy this area at this time of year, but bring coats,
hats and gloves--it will be cold in glacier country.ENJOY

If you realy want to see Glacier Bay check out HAL the are not ristricted ....Yet.
I'm sailing on the Ryndam in a couple of weeks. Whatch for my post when I get back. I sailed on the Statendam last year. The Food and ship was excellent. Even though a lot of the posts say Hal is for seniors. Don't believe what they say we had people of all ages on Board. Plus I never got board. There is always lots to do. Even had a pretty good DJ in the Crows Nest Bar. Most of the older ( not that old) 60's liked the Ocean Lounge with the live Trio for Fox Trots etc. I also enjoyed the Piano Bar a new Game or Sing Along every night. The shows were Average to Good. But you I really like the conveniance of 24 hour Cabin service, or Lido. Coffee when you want it, Ice Cream when you want it. Popcorn with your movies, all at no additional charge. Confirmed Hal-A-Addict.

May the wind be at your back and the sun Shining - Papad (54 but act like I'm still 18)

Hi Mary M.

Thank you so much for your help. I am putting my deposit down this week. I think we got a great deal also on the room, I think it is a 1B? We are also going may 24 for our honeymoon.

P.S. I am glad to hear the food is good, I am a picky eater also

Thanks

Lisa

If this a one way cruise- hopefully you are considering interior touring as well? Otherwise I would not pick the summit- it does not go to Glacier Bay or College Fjords- which makes it essentially the same as a much cheaper RT Vancouver Cruise.
