Has anyone made their own travel arrangements from Anchorage
I'm not sure whether to take the train or a coach bus for the trip to meet our cruise ship in Seward.
How long is the trip from Anchorage to Seward: (a) by train, (b) by bus.
Would like anyone who's experienced this to comment.
Appreciate the help,
Last May, we went by bus from Seward to Anchorage...about 3 hours as I recall...a beautiful trip...saw a fair amount of wildlife on the way. The bus driver had a great sense of humor. His travelogue was hysterical. Friends of ours took the train. That's a bit longer I believe through equally beautiful scenery.
For both of us, the transfer was included in our tickets so I can't comment on handling the transfer yourself.
In my opinion the bus is NOT great, I have taken the train (4 hours) and driven several times. This allows me to stop where I wish and really SEE the wildlife and scenery of which on a bus you will not. There are many areas along the 120 mile Seward Highway that are interesting. Another thought- hopefully you are not just leaving Anchorage the day you arrive???? I would never go there without at least 5 extra days of land touring. For what it's worth 6 out of 7 cruise days are the same on both the RT and one way cruises. It is a big expense in time and money not to see the interior since you are there.
We took the bus from Seward to Anchorage. (Dawn Princess) Very disappointed. We passed some beautiful scenery where other buses were pulled off and stopped at a less pretty spot. Our bus driver was not informative at all. I wish we would have rented a car so we could have done what we wanted. Namely, a dog sled ride in Seward.
